The Great British High Street Award 2018

I am calling on local associations to nominate their towns for The Great British High Street Award 2018.

The Great British High Street Awards began in 2014 and ran through to 2016. It took a break in 2017, but the Awards are back for 2018 and with support from local associations, Visa and other partners, it is hoped to be bigger and better than ever.

MPs are not eligible to nominate their own towns, but those who can include Business Improvement Districts, Local Authority, Parish Council, Town Teams, Coastal Community Team, Town Centre Partnership, Community Interest Company, Chambers of Commerce and Trading Association.

Registered high streets will be eligible to win up to £10,000 to spend on their community, plus the opportunity for their retailers, small businesses and consumers to participate in a spend & win competition proudly supported by Visa. In addition, street teams will be visiting randomly selected high streets during July and August to promote entered high streets and surprise and delight local businesses and consumers with activities and giveaways

Those wishing to nominate their local high street, a relevant local association will need to register for the awards via the website, where the full terms and conditions can also be found.

Applications must be submitted by midnight on 22nd August 2018.

We are lucky in Delyn to how such a great choice of high streets. Each town and village has something different to offer and each goes beyond what we expect of them to give a fantastic experience. Be it shopping or acting as a community hub, high streets are the lifeblood of our communities and we need to proud of those who work tirelessly to make them so.

I strongly encourage as many associations to nominate their high street as possible. I want to see each town in Delyn nominated by their local associations. We need to shout loudly and proudly that we have towns which are second to none.

The tourism pound is of growing importance for North East Wales. By winning this competition communities not only benefit from the immediate injection of £10,000 prize fund but the long-term benefits of holding the title of Great British High Street 2018.
