Recently, Hannah Blythyn AM and I received a petition from local residents to Cemex a company that runs and operates the Halkyn quarry. This was arranged following complaints from local residents about the use of HGVs in the area, noise and air pollution.

After the presentation of the petition to Cemex they agreed to our request to hold a residents meeting to discuss how they could improve their activities in the area and the lives of those who live nearest to the quarry site and hear concerns at first hand .

Last week we held that meeting and I was pleased to see a large number of residents attend. I was a pleasure to meet with everyone and discuss how we can ensure that the site works for everyone and how Cemex live up to their responsibilities to the area.

It was agreed at the residents meeting that Cemex will now produce a report for Hannah Blythyn AM and myself to consider. Once this report is produced I will be looking closely to see how they are living up to the commitments they have made in the past and how they will be protecting people’s quality of life today.

I recently visited Tarmac Ltd in Hendre outside Mold to see the work they were undertaking and how raw materials excavated from Delyn are being used in infrastructure projects across the UK.

The quarry is part of the Tarmac group which is the UK’s largest supplier of construction materials. The resources extracted from Delyn have been used to construct the M6 motorway.
