I am calling on small shopkeepers in the constituency to enter the Best Small Shops Competition, celebrating the creativity of small shops and the central role they play in their local community.
The Best Small Shops Competition is open to any small shop* operating in the UK. The competition is free to enter and all shops who enter will also be promoted to consumers through an online Indie Retail Directory.
Shopkeepers can nominate their businesses until Sunday 9th September via www.bestsmallshops.co.uk. A shortlist of 25 of the most impressive applications will be shortlisted by a panel made up of established representatives from the independent retail industry.
The judges will be looking for evidence of a small shops’ entrepreneurial spirit, ways that they have been innovative in their business and what they have done to have a lasting positive impact on their community.
The shortlisted small shops will be invited to a Parliamentary Reception on the 13th November 2018 to meet their Member of Parliament and find out who will be crowned the Best Small Shop for 2018.
Retailers in Delyn continue to amaze with their excellent customer service, extraordinary offers and dedication to the towns they operate in. I know that many shops deserve the accolades of winning The Best Small Shop award.
There are also benefits for those who enter the competition straight away. Every business who enters the competition will be displayed on the Indie Retail directory which will help raise customer awareness throughout the UK.
Those who are shortlisted will attend an awards event in parliament later in the year and I hope that I will be able to meet some of our local entrepreneurs in the Palace of Westminster. So, I urge all small shops in Delyn to enter today.
I am calling on people to nominate a pub in the Delyn constituency for the prestigious Title of Parliamentary Pub of The Year
On Tuesday the 3rd of July I joined The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Pubs to celebrate the Launch of the Parliamentary Pub of the Year.
This award focuses on celebrating pubs in our community and I will be proposing the pub in Delyn who gets the most support from constituents as the entrant from the Delyn constituency.
The Parliamentary Pub of the year competition is in its first year and will give 650 MPs the opportunity to nominate a pub to be recognised as the Parliamentary Pub of the Year.
The main criteria for nomination is a pub that is great at what they do. This can include the range of beer or food provided, the dedication to serving the local community or a specialism in music or sports. Read more “Parliamentary Pub of the Year: 2018”
I am once again calling on constituents in Delyn to enter 2018’s ‘Film the House’ competition.
‘Film the House’ is a competition run by MPs to find the filmmakers of the future. It also raises awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual property rights among creators, legislators and the general public.
This is a parliamentary-based film and scriptwriting competition for student and independent filmmakers based in the UK.
Entries are submitted to your local MP who will do the first round of judging so the competition gives Parliamentarians an opportunity to engage with a grass-roots creative demographic and provides the creative community with a vehicle through which to communicate their issues to legislators.
In short, ‘Film the House’ provides a means for the UK creative industries to communicate the importance of protecting their intellectual property rights in a fun manner which gives a foundation for Parliamentarians to push hard to protect creative output and for MPs’ constituents to interact with their local MP.
The competition is open to UK based student or independent filmmakers. Entrants will need to provide details of who their local MP is along with their submission and the local MP will choose one work from each category to put forward for judging. Read more “Film the House Competition 2018”
I am encouraging all local A-level students in Delyn to take part in the Political Studies Association (PSA)’s Schools’ Video Competition, now in its seventh year.
A highlight in the PSA’s calendar of activities to engage young people in the study of politics, the annual film competition, sponsored by YouGov, is open to post-16 students who will be studying during the academic year 2017-18.
This year’s competition asks students to explore the question: “Fake News: Is this the end of facts?”. Groups of students are invited to submit short videos on this subject, examining what fake news is, what effect it may be having on the political landscape and what it means for expert opinion and ‘factual’ knowledge.
