I have met with David Pugh, Chief Executive of Prime Cymru, to discuss how Delyn residents can benefit from the schemes offered by the Prince of Wales initiative for mature enterprise in Wales.
Prime Cymru is a registered charity and the only organisation in Wales dedicated to providing practical support to people aged 50 and over who want to become and remain economically active.
Prime Cymru states on its website that:
Economic activity amongst the over 50s is a critical problem in Wales. Over 240,000 people aged 50 to state pension age are not working – this equates to nearly 38% of the total number of people in this age group with a large number dependent on benefits.
It was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2001 in response to letters he had received from many people saying that they felt that after the age of 50 they were on the ‘scrap heap’ and they had faced insurmountable problems in securing paid employment because of their age.
Through the staff of Prime Cymru, trained mentors and associates provide clients with free tailored one to one support whether they wish to start their own business, return to the workforce or volunteer to develop skills and confidence to move closer to economic activity.
Prime Cymru is an excellent charitable organisation and it is ready and waiting to help as many people over the age of 50 in Delyn who want help in becoming economically active. They have the expertise to help people get back into work, become a volunteer or to start their own business.
They have helped the equivalent of 2 people every day to find work or start a business and I want to see as many people in Flintshire benefit from this as possible. They have over 400 volunteer mentors who help people so there is no restriction on the support available.
Not only does the work of Prime Cymru benefit those who ask for help and support, but they have estimated that they have contributed a £3.67m Social Return on Investment to the Welsh economy each year. Meaning that we are all benefiting, no matter what your age, from the work of Prime Cymry.
I encourage all Delyn residents to contact Roger Beer, Development Officer at Prime Cymru, via email at [email protected] for further information.
