Delyn MP David Hanson is urging former miners living in Flintshire who suffer from osteoarthritis of the knee to claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB).
Coal miners who suffer from osteoarthritis of the knee and have worked underground as a miner for ten years or more prior to 1 January 1986, and in some cases after that date, should be able to apply for Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.
The Flintshire MP met with Ann Sinclair from the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation during a visit to Talacre, to discuss take-up
David Hanson said:
“Last year the benefit was established by the Labour Government with people able to claim directly through Jobcentre Plus, without having to pay for the services of solicitors.
“Whilst some in Delyn have benefited to date, take-up throughout the county has not been as high as anticipated.
“As a result the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation is now offering a free service to assess whether ex-miners are eligible to apply. Any ex-miners that do suffer knee troubles are urged to ring 01782 744 996.”
