Delyn MP David Hanson has backed new help from the Government for people who lose their jobs including up to £1000 ‘golden hellos’ to encourage businesses to recruit local jobless people.
The Government has today announced an additional £500million to give real help to people who lose their jobs. Most people who lose their jobs still find work quickly, but the Government is committed to working hard for those who need help.
When redundancies are threatened the Government provide advice and signpost skills support through our Rapid Response service. From day one of unemployment the Government offers a guarantee of financial support, and employment and skills advice.
Building on the training help the Welsh Assembly Government is offering, this new half a billion pounds package for those unemployed for 6 months will guarantee extra support. Those people in this position would benefit from this new help with a range of new options available:
· ‘Golden Hellos’ – cash for employers to recruit and train unemployed people.
· Money and support for the unemployed to set up their own business.
· More chances to volunteer while looking for a job.
David Hanson said:
“In November Jobcentre Plus were notified of over 1,100 job vacancies in Flintshire. In Delyn we have around 210 people who have been unemployed for over 6 months and I want to do all I can to ensure that they are given the best possible chance of getting back into work.
“I want to urge local businesses to take advantage of this money that is now available when employing local workers.
“Every time a worker loses their job it is a personal tragedy. This Government will not repeat the mistakes of the 80s and early 90s and will never treat unemployment as “a price worth paying”.
