Delyn MP David Hanson attended Flintshire’s Carers Rights Day event Friday on Friday 4th December.
The event was organised by the North East Wales Carers Information Service (NEWCIS).
December 4th 2009 is national Carers Rights Day and a record 1,450 groups have already registered to run events to support carers in their areas.
Carers UK provide support and materials to help groups run a huge range of events, including information stalls at libraries, community centres and supermarkets, advice fayres involving a range of local partners and carer support coffee mornings.
This year there will be a particular emphasis on financial matters, with talks and awareness sessions from Job Centre Plus and Deeside College.
Carers UK have produced an information booklet for carers who want information about their entitlements, Looking After Someone? – A guide to carers’ rights and benefits. This booklet will be available at the Mold event or Carers can order copies of the booklets by: Calling the Carers Rights Day hotline on 0808 808 7777; Visitingwww.carersuk.org; Writing to Carers Rights Day, Carers UK, 20-25, Glasshouse Yard, London EC1A 4JT; or emailing carersrightsday(at)carersuk.org.
David Hanson said:
“There are over six million carers in the UK and many of those may be missing out on vital support that might help them to juggle work and care or just make life easier.
“The Government has introduced a right to flexible working for those with caring responsibilities and events like this are important in ensuring that carers know their entitlements and can get the support they need.”
