I am calling on people to support Claire House in its #EveryDyingChild campaign. The campaign launches today, Monday 22 October 2018.
Claire House is launching the urgent appeal as the number of dying children needing the support of Claire House hospice has risen by 84% in the last six years. If the charity cannot raise more money they are at risk of having to turn families away.
Money raised by the appeal will be spent on increasing the care the charity offers to families in their homes, helping more children at the hospice on the Wirral and building a new children’s hospice in Liverpool.
Those wishing to support the campaign you can text EVERY CHILD to 705000 to donate £5 or tweet with the hashtag #EveryDyingChild to show your support.
Recently, a report was published by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Children Who Need Palliative Care which examined the extent to which the UK Government’s end of life care choice commitment, published in 2016, is being met for the 40,000 babies, children and young people in England who have life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.
The work of Claire House cannot be understated. They provide care and compassion to children and parents who are facing unimaginable challenges. The growing number of children needing their support has placed new financial challenges for the charity and I hope as many people as possible will consider donating to them.
If you cannot donate then you can tweet out your support or pop by a local Claire House charity shop to donate some of your unneeded items. Every action, no matter how large or small, can help Claire House in their aims of supporting children and families.
The 84% rise in children needing support from Claire House is deeply concerning and the UK Government need to re-evaluate their policies to ensure that charities and the NHS have the support they need to provide care.
