Following on from my Ten Minute Rule Bill this week, I asked the Leader of the House if we would be granted a full debate on abolition of the hereditary peers in the House of Lords.
Yesterday, I launch an Early Day Motion which called on the hereditary principle to be abandoned once and for all in Parliament. You can read it here.
The Leader of the House dismissed my calls for a debate saying that it wasn’t a priority for the Government. I believe that excluding people from our Parliament because they were not born into a blue blooded family.
