Last week I attend Hafal’s Big Carers’ Tea Break to support mental health carers in Flintshire. The Big Tea Break is designed to bring together mental health carers to enjoy afternoon tea, have a chat and provide mutual support to fellow carers.
People who attended also had the opportunity to sample some wellbeing and pamper activities, get tips at a carers’ information marketplace and receive some advice and support on carer’s assessments.
The Big Carers’ Tea Break forms the core of a wider campaign by Hafal, and their partners. They have been working hard to ensure that the voices of mental health carers are heard so that carers have their say at a local and national level on how mental health services are planned and delivered.
Hafal also have empowered individual carers to play a full part in planning the care and treatment of the person they care for. On top of this they inform carers across Wales by providing them with high-quality, up-to-date information on welfare payments, treatments and local services.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to The Big Carers’ Tea Break. The work that Hafal – and their partners – do to help and support carers is second to none. They ensure that not only do the people receiving care get the proper support they need, but that the carers are given the much needed support and advice they can sometimes feel lost without.
These events go to show how much we must value our carers. They selflessly put their heart and soul into providing excellent care to people who are most vulnerable. I wish to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for compassion and time.
The support that was on show from Hafal – and their partners – and the people at the event was extraordinary. Really goes to show that in Flintshire we all look out for one another.
