I am calling on all pensioners who have worked in the steel industry, who live in Delyn, to submit evidence to the Government’s consultation before the closing date of the 23 June 2016.
You can read the consultation paper here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/526731/british-steel-pension-scheme-consultation.pdf. It contains the Government’s proposals on the future of steel pensions, both for people who are already retired and those who are currently working in the industry.
I will also be responding to the consultation and would very much like to hear from his constituents on their thoughts of the document the Government has published. But you can also submit your own response by:
Pensions Consultation Team
Department for Work and Pensions
1st Floor, Caxton House
6-12 Tothill Street
Concerning analysis is showing that pensioners could lose 25% of their pension no matter what action the Government takes.
I have been working closely with my colleague Mark Tami – MP for Alyn and Deeside – on this issue. We both are deeply concerned by how the Government have handled the steel crisis.
We want to avoid the steel pension scheme from being put into the Pension Protection Scheme as it would see around 10% cut into the pension funds for both people paying into the pension and for those already claiming it.
I want to hear from as many Delyn steel workers, both past and present, on their view on the consultation paper. I will submit evidence to the Government and I hope you will to. This is such an important consultation that I do not want anyone to not let their voice be heard.
