Hanson Calls for Solar Re-think as Installations plummet
Delyn MP David Hanson has called on the Government to rethink its disastrous solar policy as it was revealed that the number of installations had dropped by a staggering 94% since the start of the month.
In light of the new figures, Mr Hanson called on the Leader of the House to allow time for a debate to discuss the impact of the Government’s changes.
David Hanson said:
“As predicted, the Government’s decision to slash feed-in tariff rates is causing untold damage to the solar industry.
“Despite the High Court clearly stating that the Government’s botched changes are legally flawed, they have pressed on and we are seeing the sector take a massive hit.
“The Government’s reckless cuts to the Feed-in Tariff have thrown the solar industry into disarray, putting thousands of jobs and businesses at risk, and hitting families trying to do the right thing and cut their energy bills.
"The Government should go back to the drawing board and bring forward more measured proposals that guarantee the continued growth of the solar industry, put feed-in tariffs on a sustainable footing and are fair to the public.”

Note to Editors:
David’s question in the House of Commons:
Mr David Hanson (Delyn) (Lab): Before the end of the Session, may we revisit the changes to the feed-in tariff regime, given the astonishing figures produced today by the Government which show that solar panel installation has fallen by more than 90% since the Government’s changes were made, damaging industries such as Kingspan in my constituency, installers and ultimately consumers, and not making this Government the greenest Government in history, as they claim?
Sir George Young: I understand the right hon. Gentleman’s concern. I would be misleading him if I said I could find time for a debate, but after Prorogation and when we have a debate on the Queen’s Speech, depending on what is in it, he might be able to draw to the attention of Ministers the concern that he has just expressed.
