Flintshire Food Bank

Delyn MP David is to visit volunteers and officially open Flintshire Foodbank on Friday 27th April at 12pm. The Flintshire MP is also campaigning for the Government to take action to help families hit by higher food bills and struggling to make ends meet.

 

 

The cost of living crisis is affecting households across the country. Food prices rose by more than four per cent over the last year.   Labour is working with the food waste charity FareShare, to encourage supermarkets and food businesses to donate their surplus, edible food to charities rather than burying it as landfill.

 

 

FareShare estimates it feeds 35,500 people a day, up from 29,000 people last year. The Trussell Trust estimates that over 130,000 people will receive help from one of their network of almost 200 foodbanks this year.

 

 

David Hanson said:

 

 

“Foodbanks have a tremendous potential to help some of the most deprived people in Flintshire and across the UK. It is a great privilege to open the first in North Wales and I want to pay tribute to the volunteers who are doing such important work, helping families in need.”

 

 

He added:

 

 

“Rising food poverty is a national scandal. Whilst Foodbanks help those in desperate need, more needs to be done to alleviate poverty and prevent families from having to use services like this in the first place.”
