Caravan Industry Hit by Tax Hike
Delyn MP David Hanson has expressed his concern over new tax measures which will hit the holiday caravan industry in North Wales.
From October this year, holiday caravans, which are currently zero-rated for VAT purposes, will be taxed at the standard 20 per cent rate.
The Government’s own figures show that there will be a fall in demand of 30 per cent under these changes – affecting around 750 businesses operating in this sector.
David Hanson said:
“The static holiday caravan market is very important to the tourism industry here in Flintshire.
“Today’s announcement will hit many holiday caravan businesses that operate in Flintshire and across North Wales. The Government’s own figures suggest a fall in demand of 30 per cent, which will have a real impact on jobs.
“If there is a fall in sales then there will be a fall in visitors who will not be spending in our local economy.
“Once again this Government has done nothing for jobs and growth but instead is presiding over a stalled economy, rising unemployment and increased borrowing.”
