I have tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in support of Wales Tourism Week and the events planned by MythFest – a Welsh Government funded scheme – in the Clwydian Range.
MythFest is a 3-hour magical, outdoor adventure, immersing families in storytelling and natural crafts with local mythological creatures from the wild waters of North East Wales.
MythFest will be taking place in the following locations:
• Sunday 10th June Talacre
• Sunday 17th June Llandegia
• Sunday 16th September Clocaenog
• Sunday 30th September Northop
The EDM reads:
That this House welcomes MythFest, organised by the Clwydian range tourism group; notes MythFest is the first innovative environmentally sustainable festival supporting community cohesion to be held in the Clwydian range in North Wales; further notes events are to be held in the communities of Talacre, Llandegla, Clocaenog and Northop in June 2018; and recognises the importance of tourism to wealth generation the North Wales economy.
Tourism is such an important part of the North East Wales economy and we must support the businesses who provide vital jobs for our communities. MythFest is a fantastic idea as it will bring together members of the Clwydian range tourism group to proudly show off the best of North East Wales and to keep our local mythology alive for future generations.
I’m pleased that two of the key MythFest dates will be in Delyn and I know that it will be a boon to the people of Talacre and Northop. Only last year The Lonely Planet Guide stated that North Wales was in the top 10 places in the world to visit. We have real momentum behind us now and we must do all we can to build upon it.
The support of the Welsh Government in providing the funding for MythFest is greatly appreciated. I know that the local tourism industry will benefit greatly. Going forward I will be pushing for greater investment by the UK Government into our tourism industry to secure more decent jobs for Flintshire residents.
