Merllyn School election

Today, I visited Merllyn School for their election of Prime Minister.

It is fantastic to see so many school children excited and enthused by democracy. The elections that took place at Merllyn School are a great example of how we can get young people interested in how politics works and how it impacts upon all our lives. Speaking to all the Prime Ministerial candidates for the school I learnt what actions they wanted to undertake if they were elected.

It is so important that we instil within people the importance of taking part in elections. It makes sure your voice is heard and that your opinions are reflected in the many elected positions in the country. Going to schools and discussing what an MP does is a vital part of my job. I also help schools arrange visits to come to Parliament and see the mother of all parliaments. Any schools interested in arranging a visit to Parliament please do not hesitate to contact me.
