Delyn MP David Hanson will tomorrow, Friday the 28th of March, place a free £50 bet on the Grand National at the Ladbrookes in Flint at 10am to try and win some money for a local Flintshire charity.
As part of events leading up to the Grand National next weekend, Mr Hanson will visit the local Ladbrookes shop in Flint to see the shop in action and to place a special £50 bet on the Grand National, with all winnings going to a local Flintshire Charity of his choice.
During the visit the MP will hear about the work of the 8 local betting shops in the constituency which employ around 40 people. He will discuss the effects and benefits of betting shops in our community and in the UK as a whole where the gambling industry pay a billion pounds a year in tax, and contribute over £3billion annually to the country’s economy.
David Hanson MP said:
“I’m pleased to be able to take part in the great UK tradition of betting on the Grand National and I’m hoping my luck might be in to win some money for a charity here in Flintshire.
Local betting shops provide jobs for local people so I’m looking forward to meeting the staff there and hearing about their views on the industry and the situation locally.
There are some valid concerns about the impact of betting shops for people that struggle with gambling addictions, and that’s why I have called on the government to make sure local people and families struggling with addiction have the support they need and reforms are made to things like Fixed Odds Betting Terminals.”
