Yesterday, I questioned the Home Secretary over her proposals contained within the Draft Investigatory Powers Bill and how she will react to the Joint Committees report on said Bill, on which I was a member.
In particular, the Committee was concerned that the definition of ‘Internet Connection Records’ was too vague and that the Bill needed clarification. If these clarifications are not made it will hinder the ability of communication service providers from gathering the information needed to keep us safe.
The Home Secretary promised to bring forward a revised Bill, following the recommendations of the three Committees that scrutinised it, in due course.
It is vital that the Secretary of State draws upon our Committees recommendations to ensure that the Bill is effective and balanced.
