Hanson Supports KickBack Wall Campaign

Delyn MP David Hanson has given his support to a group of volunteers who are raising money for sports facilities for children and young people in their village.

Northop Hall Community Pavilion Association, which manages the Northop Hall community centre and sports pitches, plans to raise £40,000 for a Kickback Wall Pitch – an all weather multi-sport arena with recessed goals and basketball hoops – to be located in the centre of the village.

The Pavilion Management Committee invited the local MP to the centre to reveal their plans for the proposed new sports facilities and to explain their fund raising efforts.

Claire Cromey, Committee Secretary, said:

“There are approximately 250 young people living in Northop Hall village who would benefit from the project which will be completed in stages. Funding for the first stage, which will be ready in the coming months, has been provided through grants from Northop Hall Community Council and the Hanson Environment fund.

“The second stage, which has yet to be funded, will involve installing a second Kickback Wall facing the first one, together with an enclosure, so that end to end team games can be played.”

Glenys Jones, Chair of Northop Hall Community Council added:

“The need for a Kickback Wall facility had been identified by the village Youth Club, which meets at the Pavilion. Youth Club members had pointed out that there was a lack of places to play informal games, particularly over the winter when the playing fields are waterlogged.

“Other than the village streets, there were few places for youngsters to meet and play and such is their commitment to the project, the children themselves had raised a thousand pounds towards the cost of the facility.”

David Hanson said:

“I welcome the opportunity to meet with the coordinators of this important project. I want to congratulate the committee on the hard work it has put in and progress it has made raising funds so far.

“This Kickback Wall will give the young people of Northop Hall, and the nearby villages, a much-needed area to meet and play and want to give it my full backing.

“I hope anyone able to help with funds will contact the Committee via  Ms. C. Cromey, Secretary, Northop Hall Community Pavilion Association, c/o 9 Brookside Crescent, Northop Hall, Flintshire CH7 6HW.”
