Delyn MP David Hanson has joined forces with a number of footballers to show racism the red card. Government funding for the scheme has recently come to an end.
Amongst those in attendance were Shaka Hislop, Sol Campbell and top new comedian Patrick Monahan.
Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism charity, which was established in January 1996. The aim of our organisation is to produce anti-racist educational resources, which harness the high profile of professional footballers to combat racism.
David Hanson said:
“This was an opportunity to celebrate the charity’s 15th Anniversary and for MPs to endorse Show Racism the Red Card.
“Show Racism the Red Card has achieved so much over the last 15 years and the campaign needs continued levels of support to tackle racism in all its forms.”
Ged Grebby Chief Executive of Show Racism the Red Card said:
“The 15th year for our organisation should be a period for us to be celebrating our achievements; however, Government cuts are making this a very difficult time for charities like ourselves. At the same time, the need for our anti-racism work has never been greater.
“We are now in discussion with the Department for Communities and Local Government after our grant has ended and we will be lobbying MPs to help us secure renewed funding to continue our vital work.”
