Delyn MP David Hanson has presented the children and staff at Ysgol Bryn Gwalia with the Investors in People Award, their third award in 12 months.
The award is assessed against 12 standards aimed at developing staff and raising standards in the school. An assessor from the Wales Investors in People Quality Centre carries out evaluations.
David Hanson MP with Margaret Lonsdale (Headteacher) and Lin Harrigan (School Cook).
Strengths of the school include;
- Clear strategic plans aimed at continually raising standards,
- Development of all the staff to help them improve their own performance,
- All staff working together as a team to make the school a vibrant and enjoyable place for the children.
The children and staff have worked very over the past year; a new refurbished nursery and outdoor play area mean younger children are well catered for. In October the school was awarded the Basic Skills Quality Mark, in celebration of the work carried out in school to ensure all children have access to the curriculum and support that is needed for life long learning. Having achieved the Healthy Schools Award level 3 in April last year, school is now working towards Fairtrade status and Eco school recognition.
All of the opportunities presented to the children ensure they have exciting opportunities to enjoy their time in school. Parents are also catered for as school also runs Welsh classes for parents and ‘help your child with science’ courses.
David Hanson said:
“This is a tremendous achievement for the school which continues to build on the already excellent education it provides.
“The Investors in People Award is further recognition of the work that is being done and my visit was a great chance to talk to both staff and children.”
