Delyn MP David Hanson has received reassurances that the Government is doing everything it can to safeguard the information of all Child Benefits recipients after the unacceptable loss of their data.
David Hanson said:
“Such an incident and breach of protocol should never been allowed to happen.
“Government Ministers at the Treasury have written to me advising of a number of steps that have been taken to resolve the situation.
“A police investigation is underway and they have reporting back that there is currently no evidence that the information is in anyone else’s possession.
“The UK Payments Association (APACS) is taking action so that appropriate safeguards are put in place. Individual banks and other financial institutions, including building societies and post offices are taking steps to monitor them.
“The Chancellor has also asked for an investigation into HMRC’s security processes and procedures for data.
“I want to see this situation rectified as quickly as possible and adequate safeguards put in place to ensure it never happens again.”
