Today, I visited Tesco in Flint to collect food donations for the local food bank.
This will be the seventh Neighbourhood Food Collection undertaken by Tesco’s nationwide, in conjunction with The Trussell Trust and FareShare. The last collection, held in July 2015, was a fantastic success. Due to the generosity of customers, the hard work of Tesco staff and the 30% top up donation by Tesco Head Office, a total of 3.6 million meals were donated to people in need.
Since the first Neighbourhood Food Collection in December 2012 Tesco have donated more than 27.5 million meals to help FareShare and The Trussell Trust support a wide range of people in need across the UK.
Food drives, like this one in our local Tesco store, are excellent ways to help people who are in desperate need for food. This Christmas no one should have to go hungry, and I urge anyone who can to donate food and essentials to their local food bank.
If we all just buy one extra item at the supermarket and donate it to the food banks we would be able to help many families this winter. I will be donating food and I hope many other people will do too.
