Flintshire MPs David Hanson and Mark Tami have cautiously welcomed the news that GM Motors will retain ownership of Vauxhall.
The move, which has been welcomed by the Unite Union, is reportedly due to an improving business environment.
David Hanson said:
“My main concern has always been the long-term sustainability of the Vauxhall plant at Ellesmere Port.
“The Vauxhall workforce at Ellesmere Port is an extremely skilled and professional one and I now want to see discussions about jobs get under way as soon as is possible.”
Mark Tami said
“The Government has again made it clear that it will support a package which offers a sustainable solution for Vauxhall in the UK. We now need to get assurances about jobs and investment from GM.
“Government initiatives like the newly extended car scrappage scheme have had a positive effect on the car manufacturing sector in the UK. We have now reached over 260,000 new car orders under the scheme – 11% of these have been in the North West of England and 4.6% have been in Wales.”
