Delyn MP David Hanson has welcomed the latest employment rates which show that unemployment has continued to fall, redundancies are at a record low and the number of jobs is at a record high.
Employment is now at record levels with 29.5 million people in work in December to February, the highest figure on record. Employment rose by 152 thousand on the quarter and 456 thousand on the year, whilst the employment rate is 74.9%.
David Hanson said:
“These statistics show that despite the global economic uncertainties the UK has a strong and resilient economy which continues to create new employment opportunities.
“The number of people in employment is now the highest on record at 29.5 million and the number of job vacancies is also at a record high at 687,600.
“In fact the last twelve months have seen the largest annual increase in employment since 1997.
“In Delyn unemployment remains low with the numbers claiming unemployment benefit down by around 48 per cent over the last eleven years.
“The Government’s welfare reforms are giving more support to those who cannot work and are providing more people with greater opportunities to get in to work to help lift them and their children out of poverty.”
