Delyn MP David Hanson has welcomed the latest labour figures which show that employment has hit a record high – 29.6 million.
Employment continues to grow, with 60,000 more people in work now than three months ago, and over 400,000 more in work than this time last year. Since 1997, the number of people in work is up by 3.1 million.
This month’s rise in unemployment is from a very low base, as over the last 11 years the numbers have fallen by 779,500.The number of people claiming unemployment benefits is below the level of a year ago and remains close to its lowest level for 30 years.
There continues to be large numbers of new jobs coming up all of the time – Jobcentre Plus alone takes over 10,000 new vacancies every day.
The UK has the second highest employment rate in the G7, just behind Canada
David Hanson said:
