Delyn MP David Hanson has welcomed the latest employment figures which show employment has increased to a new record high of 29.46 million with the numbers claiming Job Seekers Allowance at a 32 year low.

The new figures, issued by the Office for National Statistics, show unemployment has fallen by 32,000 on the quarter with 89,000 fewer people unemployed compared to a year ago. The number of vacancies remains high at 678,500.

David Hanson said:

“The new figures, issued by the Office for National Statistics, show unemployment has fallen by 32,000 on the quarter with 89,000 fewer people unemployed compared to a year ago.

“Our employment rate of 74.8% continues to be above that of most other countries within the EU. These figures provide a strong platform to build on as we take the next steps towards our long-term aim of an 80% employment rate.

“There are over a million fewer people on benefits than 10 years ago.

“The Government’s welfare reforms are providing more people with greater opportunities to get in to work to help lift them and their children out of poverty.”
