Delyn MP David Hanson has welcomed Labour leader Ed Milliband’s announcement that if elected in 2015 the party would freeze gas and electricity bills for every home and business in the UK for 20 months.
Mr Hanson MP welcomed the announcement after Mr Milliband spoke at the Labour party conference in Brighton where he outlined a move to freeze energy prices that would save average households an estimated £120 and businesses £1,800.
The party had previously announced that under a Labour government the big six energy firms would be split up and governed by a new tougher regulator to ensure falls in the cost of wholesale gas and electricity would be passed onto consumers.
David Hanson MP said:
“Under this government people in Flintshire have been struggling with rising prices and stagnant wages, so the proposal to freeze energy prices would be a real help and is very welcome.
The big energy firms have for too long passed on their costs and none of their savings onto consumers, with prices hitting new highs repeatedly in the last few years despite the difficult economic time so many people are facing.
The government has done nothing to address the difficult cost of living crisis people are facing here in Flintshire, so I’m glad Ed has been able to offer a real alternative.”
