Delyn MP David Hanson has welcomed new figures showing a fall in unemployment in Delyn, but has expressed his concern that youth unemployment has remained static.
Today’s figures showing another fall in unemployment in Delyn as businesses gear up for the busy Christmas period. However the figures also show that the number of 18-24 year old Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) claimants in the area has remained the same since the last figures were announced.
David Hanson MP said:
“While I welcome the fall in unemployment in Delyn I am worried that we aren’t seeing the same progress for young people in our area. It is disappointing that the government is still not doing enough to tackle the cost of living crisis is that is hitting many people here in Flintshire, and not creating more opportunities for young people.
A period of unemployment at a young age can have a scarring effect for the rest of an individual’s life so it’s vital we tackle this problem and the government does all it can to help our young people into work”.
