Delyn MP David Hanson has welcomed new figures released today showing a fall in unemployment in Delyn, but has expressed his concern that youth unemployment has remained unchanged for the third month in a row.
Figures released today showed unemployment fell in Delyn in December, partly as a result of businesses hiring more staff for the Christmas period. However the figures also show that the number of 18-24 year old Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) claimants in the area has remained the same for three months now, raising concern that government policies to support the economy are missing young people in Flintshire.
David Hanson MP said:
“Young people in our area will be the future of Flintshire, and a period of unemployment now may knock their confidence, and make then fall behind in the skills and salary market. It’s vital that the government does more to support young people into work, and to ensure that for those adults who do have work, it pays properly and leaves them able to afford to the prices of everyday essentials that over the past four years have been rising”.
