Delyn MP David Hanson has called for more government action to support the Flintshire economy and to tackle youth employment as new official figures show unemployment in Flintshire is now at its highest level for four months.
Mr Hanson spoke out after official statistics showed 112 more people were unemployed in Flintshire than in the month prior, making it the highest level since September 2013. Youth unemployment also rose in the same month with 30 more young people aged 18-24 becoming unemployed in Delyn. Mr Hanson has been calling on the government to take further action to support local businesses and to ensure the Flintshire economy can grow and to support Labour’s call for a job guarantee to ensure anyone aged 18-24 and out of work for more than 12 months is guaranteed a job.
David Hanson MP said:
“While I welcome the national drop in unemployment, locally things are still hard with unemployment at its highest level since September of last year, so more needs to be done to support local people and business so Flintshire can thrive.
I’m particularly concerned that the number of unemployed young people in Delyn is going up and that the Westminster government simply aren’t doing enough to offer them the support and help they need to find work. With living costs spiralling it’s vital that the government now gets behind ideas like Labour’s job guarantee to ensure that anyone aged 18-24 and out of work for more than 12 months is guaranteed a job.”
