Delyn MP announces TSB partnership competition charity winner

Delyn MP David Hanson, along with Flint Town Mayor Cllr Paul Cunningham has helped announce the winner of the competition to find the TSB’s first Local Charity Partnership for Flint & Wrexham, which has gone to the charity ‘By Your Side’.

Mr Hanson was on hand to help announce and congratulate ‘By Your Side’ on their victory, as well as congratulate runners up Flintshire Foodbank.

The winning charity, By Your Side, was selected from a shortlist of charities which met TSB’s Charity Partnership criteria.  TSB’s branches in Flint and Wrexham will now aim to raise as much money as possible for the charity throughout 2015, with an initial target set at £3,000.  All funds raised will be used to fund the charity’s work, helping local people diagnosed with cancer to deal with its impact and treatment, meaning many can continue to work and support the local economy.

Runner up charity, Flintshire Foodbank, received a cheque for £500 to support them over the busy Christmas period.  In addition to the donation, TSB has also promised the Foodbank 35 hours of volunteering throughout 2015.

The idea of the competition and scheme is to serve local people and businesses, so that in turn local economies can thrive right across Britain.  The new Local Charity Partnership programme was designed to focus on helping independent charities, who can demonstrate that they are helping local people.

Delyn MP, David Hanson said:

“I would like to thank the TSB for their support for local charities and for these awards and offers of help today.  Both the Foodbank in Flintshire, and By Your Side are doing a good job to help support the local community, and are worthy recipients of the awards and I hope it will strengthen and extend their work.”

Lynsay Thomson, Area Director for TSB, said:

“I’m delighted to announce By Your Side as our Local Charity Partner.  Our focus at TSB is to serve local customers and businesses in order to boost local economies, so it was really important to us to pick a Charity Partner that gives so much to the community.”

Cllr Paul Cunningham, Flint Town Mayor, said:

“It is my pleasure to host this presentation in Flint Town Hall, and for such deserving charities.”

Cath Humes, By Your Side, said:

“We are thrilled to be chosen as Charity of the Year for TSB.  We are looking forward to working with them on lots of fund raising charity events throughout the year, which will support cancer victims throughout North Wales.”

Sue Leake, Project Manager – Flintshire Foodbank said:

“We are absolutely delighted to receive this generous donation from TSB.  Thank you very much indeed for it.”
