Once again I have been questioning the Minister responsible for Defence about the Legion d’Honneur. In particular the delays that are taking place in veterans receiving their awards from the French Government.
I asked the Minister if he will he will produce an audit of the number of British service personnel who are eligible for the Legion d’Honneur. He was able to give an indication of some rough numbers of veterans who were still awaiting and those that had received their award, but that does not provide us with a detailed picture of the delays that are occurring.
It is a great honour for the French Government to award their highest award to our veterans of the D-Day landings. But due to their age we must ensure a speedy resolution to these outstanding applications.
I welcome the effort the Government has put forward so far, but I believe that more can still be done.
