David Hanson MP attends reception with the SUBWAY® brand, leading Responsibility Deal partner

Delyn MP David Hanson has met with representatives of the SUBWAY® brand, together with Heart Research UK to discuss the company’s commitment to the UK Government’s Responsibility Deal at a joint event in Parliament this week.

Mr Hanson attended the meeting to hear more about the work of the brand in trying to help develop a healthier product for customers.  Mr Hanson was attending to hear about the changes which will be relevant to the SUBWAY® stores in Delyn, which are owned and operated by independent franchisees and employ a number of people from the local community.

The SUBWAY® brand is the only Quick Service Restaurant brand to have endorsed eight nutrition-based Responsibility Deal pledges and leads the industry in the nutritional improvements that it has made across its product range which include an average 48% reduction in salt, elimination of all trans fats, as well as reducing levels of saturated fats and sugars.

David Hanson MP said:

“Subway is a valuable employer in Flintshire so I’m glad to see them continue to do well whilst taking steps to ensure their product is healthier and can help people achieve a more balanced diet.  It’s important businesses do all they can to help their customers make healthy choices so I’m pleased to see the work Subway are doing to lead the way in their industry.”

“Through our commitments to the Responsibility Deal, the SUBWAY® brand has already achieved a 48% average reduction in the levels of salt across our product range.  The SUBWAY® brand is the only Quick Service Restaurant brand to have endorsed eight nutrition based Responsibility Deal pledges and via our new eighth pledge the SUBWAY® brand seeks to achieve further salt reductions between now and 2017.
