Yesterday, during Communities and Local Government (CLG) questions I quizzed the Housing Minister, Brandon Lewis MP, over the Government’s crude cuts to housing benefits which will impact on the most vulnerable including those using homeless hostels, women’s refuge centres and other supported homes.
The National Housing Federation have predicted that 156,000 institutions providing shelter will close as a result of these cuts.
This will result in 440,000 people being directly affected. But this is not just the National Housing Federation who believe this. St. Mungo’s and Centrepoint also believe this and they are providers of the housing to those who will be affected.
