Delyn MP David Hanson has paid tribute to the hundreds of constituents that have kept the pressure up on the Government to ensure the passing of the Climate Change Bill into law.
The historic piece of legislation has got the backing of the environmental charity, Friends of the Earth, who have congratulated the Delyn MP and awarded him with a certificate, thanking him for his contribution to the passage of the Bill through Parliament.
David Hanson said:
“I want to thank the hundreds of constituents that have corresponded with me on the content of the new Climate Change Act and on the issue of climate change generally.
“I very much welcome the support of campaigning groups like Friends of the Earth that have worked so hard alongside Government to ensure this groundbreaking piece of legislation received Royal Assent.
“On behalf of my constituents, I have campaigned for an increased emission reduction target of 80 per cent and I am delighted that this increase has been agreed to.
“The UK is leading the international community and through this Act we are sending out a strong message to the rest of the world.
“Signing up to the target is one thing; however we must work hard to put the measures in place to ensure we reach it. I will be working with the new Department to ensure we take the steps needed to tackle the effects of climate change.”
