I have just questioned the Attorney General on the Government’s action against those committing tax offences.
The Minister now knows that there is an industrial scale of money going offshore to commit tax evasion. I wanted to know how the Government was going to tackle this revelation of tax offences.
The Attorney General gave a very long answer, but not one that was clear and transparent. It is shocking that this sort of mass tax evasion has been allowed to be committed under this Government. They have been in power for nearly 6 years. Within that time they have told their MEPs to vote down EU regulations that would see the loopholes closed and taken only superficial action at home.
We need a taxation system that works for the many, not just the few. I will continue to pressure the Government on this, as I have done in the past.
